A fan-made port of Nintendo's ground-breaking — at the time, obviously — Super Mario 64 was shared on social media this weekend, and it promises to give players an enhanced experience than the one they could ever get from the Nintendo 64.
As first rported by Video Games Chronicle, this PC port of Super Mario 64 can run at a native 4K resolution, and even provides players with ultra wide screen support; making the game look crisper than ever.
It is also worth mentioning that this isn't a ROM at all, and that this version of Super Mario 64 is not — in any way, sape, or form being emulated. It is a legitimate port; albeit one that Nintendo would probably never release.
Other than supporting 4K and ultra wide screen, this port of Super Mario 64 remains pretty much intact, since no graphical improvements were made to the game's original assets. Again, it is pretty much the same console experience, only bettter-looking.
Nintendo usually doesn't condone fan projects, so chances of them serving a cease and desist to the ones involved in this fan-made port are pretty high. Let's just hope that this isn't the case, though.
There is a rumour claiming that Super Mario 64, alongside other 3D games in the Super Mario Bros. series, are getting the remster treatment. If this was the case, and Nintendo really is planning on releasing remastered versions of these all-time classics, we may be seeing something similar to what happened when Nintendo cancelled the AM2R(Another Metroid 2 Remake) project.
