Super Mario Bros. series Creator Shigeru Miyamoto has recently revealed that he wants Mario, the main hero in Nintendo's beloved franchise, to be as popular as Mickey Mouse; Disney's iconic mascot. Miyamoto does also believe, however, that some things need to change before this happens.

During a recent event attended by Nikkei, Miyamoto disclosed that he believes the reason why Mario isn't as popular as Disney's Mickey Mouse yet, is because some parents won't allow their kids to play Nintendo games; something that he believes needs to change in order for Mario to reach Mickey Mouse's popularity.

"Many parents want to keep their children from playing video games. But these same parents have no problem allowing them to watch Disney movies. We cannot seriously challenge [Disney] unless parents start feeling comfortable about their children playing Nintendo," explained Miyamoto.

To be quite fair, Mario is probably the most recognisable video game character in history, and Disney's Mickey Mouse was first introduced in the late 1920; as opposed to Mario being introduced in the early 1980s. Without a doubt, Mario's popularity will keep on growing; perhaps even sooner than Miyamoto thinks.
