Publisher Focus Home Interactive has revealed that they will be responsible for bring Deck 13's The Surge 2 and yet-to-be-announced game to the market. Given that The Surge 2 hasn't even released yet, it's rather save to say that a few years will pass before we learn more about the latter project.

In a new interview with GameWatcher, Jan Klose, the creative director of The Surge 2, confirmed that this all-new title will be their another Dark Souls-like video game after Lords of the Fallen, The Surge, and its highly anticipated sequel. "We really like the genre, and we really like is staying on the action side of things, so we don't want to do a franchise or idea that just too casual," Klose explained.

"We really want to stay on the challenging side of things," the director added. While this mysterious title will be just as challenging as From Software's modern games (like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice), the German studio will do their best to slightly update the old, well-known formula. "We want to do some things a little differently," Klose said. "So we were looking for something where we can do both these things. It will play a little different, but I hope that The Surge 2 fans would like to give it a go too... We have ideas, we have a concept of what we want to do and probably things will still change as we go along. We always want to do something that you don't really know to where it will end up, and feels new, and apply that to these sort of games - and staying true to the genre."

Unfortunately, the project is in a very early stage of development, as the team at Deck 13 is currently "totally focusing on The Surge 2, and making it a cool game. On the other hand, it was very important for us to continue to work with Focus because we really like these guys. They do a very nice job and we really feel at home here. There was mutual drive to do something new together. It's not a small thing, something really big, but it's really just on the horizon right now," Klose concluded.

Focus Home has released the first artwork for Deck13's next big thing, and it definitely is more similar to the overall aesthetics of Lords of the Fallen than the Surge series. Be sure to check it out below:

The Surge 2 keeps what fans and critics loved about the original – hardcore combat utilizing a unique, dynamic limb targeting system and deep character progression – while also expanding greatly upon the formula. The Surge 2 takes place in a brand new environment: a sprawling, devastated city with larger and more ambitious level design, made possible by Deck13’s upgraded and improved engine. Combat is more brutal and tactical than ever, with even more options thanks to an expanded limb targeting system. In addition, more abilities, weapons, implants, and drones give players a vast arsenal to build their character with, in their fight against the array of diverse new enemies and bosses.

The Surge 2 will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019.
