PlatinumGames has recently shared an interview with Yasutaka Maeki, Lead Environmental Artist for
The Wonderful 101, who reveals some very interesting details about working for the developer, other projects he's worked on, and exactly what is it that he does as an environmental artist.
Maeki reveals that he's also worked on other PlatinumGames projects, like both entries in the
Bayonetta series,
Anarchy Reigns,
Transformers: Devastation, and
Astral Chain, as well as working on Konami's
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots as a character designer.
As revealed by Maeki, Director Hideki Kamiya wanted to give
The Wonderful 101 a diorama-like art style, in which the team would look like a bunch of miniatures — which is exactly how the game ended up looking like — and that had him figuring out ways to make environments less demanding in terms of graphics.
Maeki reveals a bunch of interesting details like that in the full interview posted by PlatinumGames, so don't forget to give it a watch and let us know what you think in the comments section down below.
