Yakuza 6: The Song of Life has just hit shelves outside of Japan but the game actually came out over a year ago in Asia and that's more than enough time for the team behind the
Yakuza series to begin working on a new IP.
According to
DualShockers, Ryu ga Gotoku Studio(the studio behind the Yakuza series) are officially working on a new IP. This was confirmed by the CEO of Sega Haruki Satomi in an interview with the Japanese magazine Weekly Famitsu.
The source says that the team is eager to challenge themselves by trying different platforms to develop games, mentioning arcades and even mobile devices, besides consoles. When strictly talking about home consoles, Satomi mentioned that the Studio is working on a new IP but didn't provide any more details.
This really is exciting news but it is very likely that we won't get any new information any time soon. In the meantime, players can still look forward to
Yakuza Kiwami 2, that is coming out on the 28th of August, and the recently released
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life that is available now.
It's been a full year since Kazuma Kiryu took his leave from the world of the yakuza during the events of Yakuza Kiwami. Fate, however, has other things in mind for the legendary Dragon of Dojima, and Kiryu finds himself back on the front lines of a potential all-out war.
From the unparalleled realism of the new setting of Onomichi, a beautiful, sleepy port town in Hiroshima Prefecture, to the latest evolution of Kamurocho, the biggest red-light district in Tokyo, Yakuza 6 is the ultimate iteration the game's blend of gritty crime story, hyper-explosive combat, and all the vices and distractions those locales have to offer.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 will be available exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on the 28th of August.
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is available exclusively for the PlayStation 4 right now.
