Gearbox Software Is Apparently Looking "Closely" At Cross-Platform Multiplayer In BORDERLANDS 3

Borderlands 3 was announced nearly two weeks ago, but there are still many aspects of the highly anticipated shooter that are a big mystery. In a recent interview with GameSpot, a 2K spokesperson eliminated any doubts on Borderlands 3's rumored cross-play and cross-progression between PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, as the title won't support those functionalities, at least at launch.

"Cross-play is something we're looking at closely, but we don't have anything to confirm or announce at this time," the spokesperson said. Considering that other major releases (like Dauntless) will give all players a chance to experience the game together, the fact that Gearbox Software is debunking the rumor (caused by Microsoft's listing for Borderlands 3) might be a major bummer for those who would like to play with their friends no matter what platform they play on and no matter where they are.

Naturally, Gearbox could always add the option at a later date, following in Fortnite's footsteps. Given that E3 2019 is almost upon us, we will surely learn more about the shooting extravaganza during the upcoming expo, as Take-Two Interactive Software has already confirmed their presence at the show.

The original shooter-looter returns, packing bazillions of guns and a mayhem-fueled adventure! Blast through new worlds and enemies as one of four new Vault Hunters. Play solo or with friends to take on insane enemies, score loads of loot and save your home from the most ruthless cult leaders in the galaxy. Stop the fanatical Calypso Twins from uniting the bandit clans and claiming the galaxy’s ultimate power.

Borderlands 3 arrives on Xbox One, PS4, and PC (via the Epic Games Store) on September 13, 2019.
