Gearbox Software has announced a new release date for Borderlands 4, but don't worry, it's not a delay. Rather, the game's launch is being pushed up by two weeks.

Borderlands 4 will be now be released on September 12, 2025, 11 days sooner than its original date.

"After careful consideration - along with a LOT of meetings, playtesting, and incredible development work - we have made the monumental decision to MOVE UP THE LAUNCH DATE OF BORDERLANDS 4 to September 12," the developer announced on social media.

In addition to announcing a new release date, Gearbox has revealed key art as well as plans to host a special deep dive into Borderlands 4 this week. On Wednesday, April 30th, Gearbox and PlayStation are teaming up for a special State of Play that will feature 20 minutes of "developer-guided gameplay, including missions, killer weapons, exciting Action Skills, new and returning characters, and more."

Gearbox has shared a couple of gameplay trailers in recent months, but none of the have really provided an in-depth look at the game. They've mostly been sizzle reels with explosive action, which is pretty much what Borderlands is known for as a franchise. This deep dive, which will be hosted by Gearbox Creative Director Graeme Timmins and Senior Project producer Anthony Nicholson, will give us our best look yet at the gameplay.

The Borderlands 4 State of Play will begin on April 30 at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm BST / 11pm CEST. You'll be able to tune in and watch on PlayStation's Twitch and YouTube channels.

Break free from the oppressive Timekeeper, a ruthless dictator who dominates the masses from on high. Now, a world-altering catastrophe threatens his perfect Order, unleashing mayhem across the planet. Ignite a resistance and blast your way through mechanical monstrosities, bloodthirsty bandits, and vicious beasts, with new traversal mechanics like: double jumping, gliding, dodging, fixed-point grappling, and more.

Borderlands 4 is the fifth entry in the main Borderlands series and a sequel to 2019's Borderlands 3. The game is planned to be the largest and most open ended game in the series to date, with Gearbox even describing the game's world as "seamless" and without any loading screens The State of Play should hopefully give us a better look at just how massive and open this new world will be. We'll also hopefully get to see some of the game's new weapons, vehicles, and traversal tools, including the grappling hook.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for a recap of the Borderlands 4 State of Play and any new info we learn about the game.
