MMORPG
Tera Online joined the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One console family last month, but it looks like Blizzard is still reluctant to port one of the biggest PC games of all time,
World of Warcraft, on today's consoles (or even any other system that's not PC). MOBA games are also quite common on consoles (
Smite, Gigantic, and
Paladins: Champions of the Realm to name a few) but it's not enough for Blizzard.
Asked by DualShockers during Pax East 2018,
World of Warcraft Producer Daniel Stahl and
Heroes of the Storm Lead Hero Designer Matt Villers both provided negative answers about the possibility of a console move for their PC games. “
You know, World of Warcraft is really designed for Personal Computers, I think," Stahl explained. "
There’d have to be so many different changes we’d have to make to make it a console game… We really want to continue making World of Warcraft as it is right now. We’d have to do something entirely different if we wanted to do something for consoles.”
“
Our focus is really on PC, it has been from the beginning. There would probably be a lot of changes needed to make the gameplay work on console. No plans in that regard right now," Villers added.
So, there it is. If you were hoping to play Blizzard’s successful MMORPG and MOBA on your PS4, Xbox One, or even Switch, looks like it isn’t happening. There was also a rumor regarding a possible Diablo III's port on the Switch, and there's a chance this version will announced at this year's E3. In the meantime, Blizzard is working on the seventh WoW expansion that will be available on PC soon.
Azeroth paid a terrible price to end the apocalyptic march of the Legion's crusade—but even as the world's wounds are tended, it is the shattered trust between the Alliance and Horde that may prove the hardest to mend. In Battle for Azeroth, the fall of the Burning Legion sets off a series of disastrous incidents that reignites the conflict at the heart of the Warcraft saga. As a new age of warfare begins, Azeroth's heroes must set out on a journey to recruit new allies, race to claim the world's mightiest resources, and fight on several fronts to determine whether the Horde or Alliance will lead Azeroth into its uncertain future.
World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth will be released on August 14, 2018.
