According to 11 Bit Studios' Publishing Director Paweł Feldman,
This War of Mine has a base of over 4.5 million players, with survival city-building sim
Frostpunk selling over 1.4 million units in its launch year.
"
If you look closely, you'll see there is a ton of inspiration from This War of Mine in Frostpunk. We didn't want to just feed on our own success and recycle the same ideas, though. We wanted to tell a different story and highlight different kinds of problems [...], I feel we were largely successful," Feldman said in an interview with Games Industry. "
We aim for a mixed approach to the content we deliver and diversification," Feldman continued.
"Free updates don't have to be insignificant, and that's why Frostpunk received Endless Mode and story-driven expansions like Fall of Winterhome."
Considering that
Frostpunk will be releasing for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this summer, the game's final sales results may very well reach 2 million copies sold worldwide in the next couple of weeks.
As a friendly reminder, the team at 11 Bit Studios is also working hard on a mysterious
Project 8.
Frostpunk, the newest title from the creators of This War of Mine, is a society survival game where heat means life and every decision comes at a price. In an entirely frozen world, people develop steam-powered technology to oppose the overwhelming cold. You face the task of building the last city on Earth and securing the means necessary for your community to survive.
Frostpunk is coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this summer; available on PC NOW!
