Valve's Gabe Newell Says PORTAL And HALF-LIFE Movies Are Still Coming
In a new reddit AMA, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell says those Portal and Half-Life movies that have been in development for YEARS with J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot are still coming.
Last year was poised to be a banner year for video game movies, with Warcraft, Assassin's Creed, Angry Birds and Rachet and Clank adaptations all hitting North American theaters. Sadly (and surprisingly), all but the Angry Birds movie flopped in theaters. This certainly doesn't bode well for the future of video game adaptations but development on Tomb Raider (starring Alicia Vikander), Rampage (starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) and Splinter Cell (starring Tom Hardy) continues.
In addition to these upcoming features, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell reiterated that Portal and Half-Life movies are also on the way in his latest AMA. Of course, these films have been in development since 2013, when they first announced at DICE. In the four years since their initial reveal, there have been no announcements regarding a cast, director or screenwriter. Perhaps Valve is simply waiting for the genre to find the right formula before committing resources?
