It's been a while since Hideo Kojima shared new info on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, but that could change next month! Kojima Productions announced that the studio will host a special talk for the upcoming game as part of the Main Stage Program during the Tokyo Game Show 2024.

The "PlayStation Presents “DEATH STRANDING 2” Special Stage!" panel will be held on Sunday, September 29th at 10:30 JST (Saturday, September 28th at 9:30 p.m. EST). During the panel, game creator Hideo Kojima, and Daichi Miura, singer-songwriter and official supporter of TGS2024, will be joined by several guests, including Kenjiro Tsuda, Nana Mizuki, Tomokazu Sugita, Shion Wakayama, and Nicolas Winding Refn.

It's unlikely that we will get a release date for the game, though we could learn some new plot details or possible gameplay elements. We also don't know if the panel will be streamed online, so we may have to tune in via live tweeting.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was announced in December 2022 with a stunning reveal trailer at The Game Awards. The announcement confirmed that actor Norman Reedus (Sam Porter Bridges) along with Léa Seydoux (Fragile). The cast also included Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and Troy Baker.

A new trailer was shared more recently during Sony's State of Play, confirming the game's official title along with story details. Like the first game, it sounds like Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will deal with thematic elements that explore human connection.

Embark on an inspiring mission of human connection beyond the UCA. Sam—with companions by his side—sets out on a new journey to save humanity from extinction. Join them as they traverse a world beset by otherworldly enemies, obstacles and a haunting question: should we have connected? Step by step, legendary game creator Hideo Kojima changes the world once again.

Released in 2019 for PlayStation 4, Death Stranding is an action game from Kojima Productions and legendary game creator Hideo Kojima. Set in the United States following a cataclysmic event that fractured humanity into isolated colonies, Norman Reedus stars as Sam Porter Bridges, a courier tasked with delivering supplies to these colonies and reconnecting them via a wireless communications network. The game also starred Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, Margaret Qualley, Troy Baker, Tommie Earl Jenkins, and Lindsay Wagner.

The game received generally positive reviews, mostly for its unique concepts, graphics, and acting. However, not everyone found its gameplay interesting, as some compared it to a walking simulator comprised entirely of fetch quests. The game was also criticized for its slow pacing.

Ultimately, though, Death Stranding was a commercial success, selling five million copies worldwide across PS4 and PC as of July 2021. A Director's Cut was released for PlayStation 5 in July 2021.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has been announced for PlayStation 5.
