Developer Insomniac Games Insists MARVEL'S SPIDER-MAN 2 Is Still On Track For 2023 Release

Responding to fan worries that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has been delayed, developer Insomniac Games has confirmed that the game is "making good progress" and still on track for a 2023 release.

Last September, Sony and Insomniac Games officially unveiled Marvel's Spider-Man 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the studio's web-slinging action adventure. It's now been over a year since that reveal and we haven't seen or heard much about the game since. This has led some to speculate that the game will be delayed.

As reported by DualShockers, fans were discussing the possibility of a delay when the official Insomniac Games social media account responded. The studio assured them that they're "making good progress and it's still slated for 2023."

As for why we haven't seen any trailers or gameplay footage since that initial reveal, the developer added that "showing games takes time, effort, resources, and coordination."

Revealing anything related to Marvel's Spider-Man 2 would likely require approval from Sony which typically saves those sorts of things for larger events or streams. And right now, the publisher is probably focused on the upcoming release of God of War: Ragnarok, which figures to be PlayStation's big holiday blockbuster. God of War: Ragnarok recently went gold and is slated to launch on November 9.

Looking ahead to next year, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is set to be one of Sony's most prominent PlayStation exclusives. It's currently the only known first-party game schedule for 2023 and will probably be next year's big holiday release. If that's the case, then it's possible the next major update on the game could come next summer.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be a continuation of the adventures of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Although much of the game remains under wraps, we do know that the two web slingers will face their toughest foe yet: Venom.

Much of the same development team that worked on the original game has returned for the sequel, including creative director Bryan Intihar and game director Ryan Smith. Tony Todd (Candyman) will be voicing Venom while Yuri Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter will be reprising their roles as Peter and Miles respectively.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 isn't the only game Insomniac is working on either. Announced during the same event last September, Insomniac revealed it's also developing a Wolverine game. Although we did get a brief teaser trailer for the game, Marvel's Wolverine figures to be even further down the line.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has been announced exclusively for PlayStation 5.
