Ghost of Tsushima has been one of the most highly anticipated titles of this generation, and players have already had the chance to play this game, as a PlayStation 4 exclusive title, for a good 3 weeks now — as it finally became available worldwide on the 17th of July.
Recent information posted by Game Data Library, as reported by independent video game industry analyst BenjiSales, has revealed that Ghost of Tsushima is currently the PlayStation 4's second best-selling first-party title in Japan, trailing only behind MARVEL's Spider-Man from Insomniac Games.
We don't know how many copies of Ghost of Tsushima were sold, but MARVEL's Spider-Man has managed to sell roughly 300,000 copies since its worlwdide release in September of 2018; again, this number amounts to sales in Japan alone, since we know that Insomiac Games' critically acclaimed title had sold over 9 million copies as of January in 2019.
To further illustrate, not a week after Sucker Punch's critically acclaiemd Ghost of Tsushima had released, it was revealed that the game had already sold over 2.4 million copies worldwide; becoming the fastest-selling original PlayStation 4 intellectual property, and beating out both Bend Studio's Days Gone and Kojima Productions' Death Stranding.
BenjiSales also mentions that some could bring up Knack when it comes to sales in Japan, as it has sold more than the recently released Ghost of Tsushima, but those sales were pushed by the fact that the game was bundled with the PlayStation 4 early on, while Ghost of Tsushima has not been bundled yet.
For those of you wondering, MARVEL's Spider-Man was not bundled to PlayStation 4 consoles in Japan either; at least, not at launch, which is Ghost of Tsushima's case right now.
In 1274, the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the Japanese island of Tsushima and slaughters its legendary samurai defenders. Jin Sakai is one of the last survivors of a noble samurai clan. To combat his overwhelming foes, he must pioneer deadly new fighting techniques--the way of The Ghost--and wage an unconventional war for the people of Japan.
Ghost of Tsushima is currently available exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
