Just over a year ago, Electronic Arts stated that single-player games are no longer popular, since then players have be worrisome that the single-player experiences would begin to wither away.
However, this year saw massive success in the realm of single-player games with Marvel's Spider-Man and God of War becoming two of the year's most successful titles - the latter recently being named GOTY at The Game Awards.
Sony have thankfully taken note of their recent exclusives' successes, stating during an interview with MCV Magazine that they believe there's still demand for single-player games. Warwick Light, who's the vice president and managing director for Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe, said as such:
While 2018 was indisputably a big year for Fortnite, it was also a year which saw us really act like a publisher and focus on our exclusive titles whether it was God of War, Spider-Man, Detroit or VR titles such as Astro Bot.
Buzz words are one thing, what our players are demanding is another. There’s still a huge audience for games that offer the best in single player narrative with stunning gameplay, as witnessed by the enormous popularity of both Spider-Man and God of War in this year’s charts. I was just at the Golden Joysticks – God of War won five!
What do you think of Light's statment? Do you support the continued production of single-player games? Or do you think it's time to bury such experiences?
