Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the next installment in the beloved and iconic Ratchet & Clank video game series developed by Insomniac Games. This entry will serve as the canonical continuation from Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, which released for the PlayStation 3 back in 2013 — before the series reboot in 2016.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was announced back in June during Sony's PlayStation 5 reveal event, however, it wasn't made clear whether or not the upcoming game will be exclusively available on the next-generation platform. Many speculated the game would be exclusive to the PlayStation 5 thanks to the console's super-fast SSD, which allows for near-instant load times.
Well, it turns out that's exactly the case. Insomniac Games recently confirmed as much over on Twitter, as you can see below (via @InsomniacGames):
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will see the titular heroes jumping through portals from dimension to dimension instantly. The current generation, the PlayStation 4, simply wouldn't be able to run the upcoming game well enough. Thus, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is indeed a PlayStation 5 exclusive title.
We don't quite know when Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will launch, however, it's believed the installment will debut near the turn of the generation — which means later this year or very early next year. Other PlayStation 5 titles, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Sackboy: A Big Adventure, will be available on both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 5 launches in just ten days on November 13th.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be exclusively available on PlayStation 5.
