The global pandemic we're currently going through has forced developers all over the world to put on hold some of their projects, and some fans have been wondering whether the previously announced tentative launch dates for the next-gen consoles liek the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 has been affected by this.
In the particular case of the PlayStation 5, Sony Interactive Entertainment has shared almost no information in regards to the console itself — although they did unveil its reimagined controller, which they've renamed from DualShock to DualSense — but we still haven't even seen the highly anticipated platform.
Earlier today PlayStation announced a special presentation, in which they will be introducing players to "the future of gaming", that will be streamed on Thursday the 4th of June, although sources have claimed that this presentation will only showcase upcoming video games but will not reveal the console.
Following the PlayStation 5's presentation announcement, Chief Operating Officer of PlayStation Jim Ryan shared some reassuring details about the yet-to-be-reveald console; revealing that everything is going according to plan, and that the PlayStation 5 will still release this Holiday.
"We remain absolutely on track. We're going to launch this holiday, we will have a global launch. And where we're greatly looking forward to it. And we very much want the gaming world to look forward to it, too," revealed Ryan during a recent interview with Cnet.
When it comes to the price of the PlayStation 5, Ryan reveals that they will "try to get the price right and value proposition right," which is also quite reassuring considering that the pandemic could have affected production in ways that could be detrimental to to the release.
Now that this special presentation is scheduled to stream next Thursday, we may finally get an official release date for the console. Again, the focus will allegedly be upcoming video games, so it is best to keep your expectations in check.
