Recent reports claimed that Sony had been forced to cut production of PlayStation 5 consoles by 4 million units due to chip woes. To be more specific, Sony would've made this decision after production issues with their next-gen console's custom-designed system-on-chip.
If this were the case, Sony would only have 11 million units available for the PlayStation 5's launch this Holiday, which would also be problematic for consumers; leading to console shortages very early on after its highly anticipated release.
Bloomberg does mention that their sources aren't official, although they were people "familiar with the matter," so it was still widely considered to be nothing more than a rumour until Sony officially confirmed or denied the claims.
As it turns out, Sony has fired back, revealing that this is absolutely not the case, and that they have not been forced to cut production of PlayStation 5 consoles.
"While we do not release details related to manufacturing, the information provided by Bloomberg is false. We have not changed the production number for PlayStation 5 since the start of mass production," Sony revealed in an statement issued to GamesIndustry.biz today.
With all of this out of the way, all Sony has got left to do is finally reveal the price and official release date of the PlayStation 5, that day will likely be tomorrow, as Sony has already announced that a special presentation will be livestreamed on Wendesday the 16th of September.
