This week Sony surprised us all with the announcement that they were going to be releasing a PlayStation Classic. The company is making this console smaller, and will come with 20 pre-loaded games, much like Nintendo has done with the
Nintendo Classic Mini, and the
Super Nintendo Classic Edition.
The
PlayStation Classic will be including 2 USB ports for the classic-looking controllers, 1 USB port for the charger(not included in the bundle), and one HDMI port to connect the console to the TV.
IGN reached out to Sony in order to ask a few questions regarding the new classic console, more specifically about the DualShock compatibility given that the
PlayStation Classic will be bundled with the first iteration of the iconic controllers—that didn't have analog sticks or vibration-feedback.
It turns out that no Sony peripherals made for PlayStation consoles will be compatible with the
PlayStation Classic—even if these can be connected to the console via USB like the DualShock 3 and DualShock 4. This could also mean that some games that required either the Dual Analog or DualShock controllers will not be included in the
PlayStation Classic.
There weren't that many games that required a Dual Analog or DualShock controller to be played so there really wasn't any need to include these controllers in the
PlayStation Classic bundle, but it is slightly disappointing that newer controllers won't be compatible.
What will be compatible, though, are USB AC adaptors, so any charger from a mobile device could be used in order to charge the console—which is great news given that the
PlayStation Classic will not be including an AC adaptor.

PlayStation Classic will be available on the 3rd of December.
