Santa Monica Studio has been able to deliver a fantastic experience with the latest
God of War and this is reflected not only by the critical praise it's received, but also by the number of copies it's managed to sell since launch.
The news comes from the
Sony Corporation Investor Relations Day 2018, as reported by
IGN, in which John Kodera announced that
God of War has sold an impressive 5 million copies since the
20th of April—the day it officially launched.
While this is an impressive achievement, it's not really surprising given that the game was able to sell
3.1 million copies within the first 3 days since it launched—thus becoming the fastest-selling game on the PlayStation 4.
God of War has sold so well that it's even managed to stay in the
top 1 position for five weeks straight, according to the GfK Chart-Track in the UK. The only other game that has been able to do that was Sony and Naughty Dog's
The Last of Us, back in 2013, and
God of War may be able to break that record this week. Even if the game wasn't to break the record, it is still an impressive feat for both titles—and a well-deserved, too.
His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive…And teach his son to do the same. This startling reimagining of God of War deconstructs the core elements that defined the series—satisfying combat; breathtaking scale; and a powerful narrative—and fuses them anew.
God of War is available exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
