Santa Monica Studios and Sony's
God of War has had a lot of people talking about it since the game launched last month. The studio was so open about the game's making process that they began sharing bits of information on how they came up with the idea for the game, the struggles, the way the music was composed, and even that impressive single shot that doesn't stop from beginning to end.
Now they have begun uploading a new Director Commentary series that has Creative Director for
God of War, Cory Barlog, guiding us through some of the game's most memorable moments. Today is no exception and in this third entry in the Director Commentary series, Barlog tells us all about
The Sickness, as well as sharing some details that players may have missed when playing through the game. As always, there will be some major
spoilers from now on.
In
The Sickness, Atreus falls ill due to some unknown affliction that he's been fighting since the beginning of the game. This causes Kratos to go back to
The Witch of the Woods to help him cure his son, and this is when it is revealed that, in order to save Atreus's life, he must be told about his divine heritage. But since Atreus is unresponsive, Kratos needs to retrieve a rare ingredient from
Helheim, a place where his
Leviathan Axe won't be of any use due to its frost nature, which makes Kratos come to the decision that he now needs to arm himself with the weapons he voweds not to use again - the
Blades of Chaos.
His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive…And teach his son to do the same. This startling reimagining of God of War deconstructs the core elements that defined the series—satisfying combat; breathtaking scale; and a powerful narrative—and fuses them anew.
God of War is available exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
