In April of last year, mere days after
God of War released worldwide, Director Cory Barlog revealed that he had at least five different ideas for the long-running series' future and would be trying to make them as fast as possible. While nothing has been confirmed yet, it looks like Barlog and his team at SIE Santa Monica Studio are currently working hard on a brand-new game starring Kratos and Atreus.
During yesterday's discussion on Reddit about
Horizon: Zero Dawn 2 (you can learn more about its status
RIGHT HERE), Kotaku's Jason Schreier revealed that a new
God of War is in the works. "
I don't want to give you too much shock at once, but there's gonna be another God of War," Schreier said.
Considering that he's one of the most proven journalists in the business (he's responsible for leaking countless details on the
Assassin's Creed series and has been investing BioWare's working conditions and the troubled development of
Anthem), you can be sure that a new
GOW is in the making.
As a reminder,
Moon Director Duncan Jones said in November that
"if you think that God of War is his magnum opus, just you wait!" It wasn't even the first time we've heard about Santa Monica's next game, as a job listing from October suggested that the studio was looking for Senior Control Designer and Senior Technical Animator to realize "
a strategic [...] studio plan spanning two future projects."
At the time of writing, Sony had not revealed any official plans to make a
God of War sequel.
From Santa Monica Studio and creative director Cory Barlog comes a new beginning for God of War. Living as a man outside the shadow of the gods, Kratos must adapt to unfamiliar lands, unexpected threats, and a second chance at being a father. Together with his son Atreus, the pair will venture into the brutal Norse wilds and fight to fulfill a deeply personal quest.
