The Last of Us Part II star Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie in the post-apocalyptic action-adventure game, has finally responded to
the release date rumors that stemmed from a recent interview she had on Critical Role's
Between the Sheets. In the interview, Johnson was asked directly when the highly anticipated sequel would release, and it sounded like she was about to say February before she was cut off by the host.
It just so happens that February lines up with recent reports that also pointed to an early 2020 release for the game. Was it an accidental slip? Was it a planned joke? Does she even know when the game will launch? Responding to fans on social media, Johnson addressed the interview and subsequent rumor that resulted from it.
"I’ve been saying February 31st and October 32nd FOR YEARS and everyone is acting like it’s real. I stand behind those dates because they’re DEFINITELY REAL," Johnson
said.
If you can't tell, that's sarcasm on the internet. The fact that February 31st and October 32nd don't actually exist seem to suggest that Ashley Johnson was joking about the February release date. Or is this just some elaborate cover for her slip-up?
With Sony skipping E3 this year, we didn't receive a status update regarding
The Last of Us Part II. A lengthy gameplay trailer was released at 2018's E3, and while it looked pretty polish, we haven't seen or heard much about the game since. Sony's
official PlayStation site lists
The Last of Us Part II as coming to the PlayStation 4, but with no release date and the PlayStation 5 seemingly right around the corner, it wouldn't come as a shock to see it announced as a next-gen launch title as well.
