In the world of The Last of Us, September 26th marks the day the cordyceps fungus hit critical mass: it is known as Outbreak Day. Since 2013, Naughty Dog has used Outbreak Day as a way to celebrate The Last of Us' incredible community by releasing new and exclusive items, content, and special promotions. It is said that the upcoming 26th, which commemorates the 5th anniversary of Outbreak Day, will be the biggest release of content so far.
Naughty Dog recently took to Twitter to tease the upcoming celebration - and release of gear, content, and promos.
The Outbreak Day website sports a countdown to the 26th, as well as multiple panels of content. Most of the panels are blurred out and labelled "To Be Revealed" which is evidently the most tantilising phrase Naughty Dog could muster up - and on that, they did an excellent job.
The studio is clearly saving the best for last as; the currently uncovered panels feature pretty mundance items. One sports a "System Theme" for the PlayStation 4, whilst another features PSN avatars - eight to be exact; five of new characters, three of Ellie - and Joel is noticeably absent. The remaining two panels consist of the game's theme song, titled "Cycles", and device wallpapers. All of this content, and more, will be available when Outbreak Day hits.
What else do you think we can expect from the fifth Outbreak Day? Are you looking forward to The Last of Us Part II?
The Last of Us Part II doesn't currently have a set release date - but will release exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
