One of the many things that should be recognized of the creators responsible for the games enjoyed by fans, when the occasion merits, is that they investigate in-depth topics and facts that will be used in their projects. This is with the goal of adequately representing elements as best as they can. As you know, Sucker Punch is working on Ghost of Tsushima and given the history of the title, they have requested the advice of experts in martial arts and samurai.
Yesterday, the official Twitter account of Sucker Punch revealed part of the development process of Ghost of Tsushima, the project that takes place during the invasion of the Mongol Empire to Japan and where you will take the role of one of the last samurai that remained standing.
Obviously, part of the creative process involves investigating and adequately reflecting the combat and defense techniques that have accompanied the history of Japan, that is why the development team invited Masakumo Kuwami and Ryusetsu Ide, teachers of the martial arts school Tenshinryu Hyohou. The academy's origin dates back to the early seventeenth century.
The visit of Kuwami, Tenth Grade teacher, and his assistant, Ide, allowed the Sucker Punch team to learn more about the samurai arts. The Japanese school teaches Battojutsu and Kenjutsu, techniques based on sword combat that start from simple elements, such as unsheathing properly, to more advanced elements that guarantee the perfect execution of attack and defense movements.
The year is 1274. Samurai warriors are the legendary defenders of Japan—until the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the island of Tsushima, wreaking havoc and conquering the local population. As one of the last surviving samurai, you rise from the ashes to fight back. But honorable tactics won’t lead you to victory. You must move beyond your samurai traditions to forge a new way of fighting—the way of the Ghost—as you wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Japan.
Ghost of Tsushima will be available for the PlayStation 4.
