Guerilla Games launched an all-new franchise in February 2017 with the release of Horizon Zero Dawn — their first since Killzone in 2004. The open-world role-playing game went on to earn quite acclaim and, having sold over ten-million copies, is one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 games.
The player assumes the role of Aloy, a hunter in a world overrun by animalistic machines, who's out on a mission to uncover her past. Equipped with ranged weaponary, the player can make use of stealth to outwit and combat the terrifying mechanical creatures — all the while improving themselves with a skill tree and discovering new locations and side quests.
After a while of rumours from inside sources, Horizon Zero Dawn for PC was officially announced just last month and will be available this summer — find out more on that here.
Despite the game's success, PlayStation and Guerilla Games are yet to officially announce that a sequel is in the works. However, that doesn't mean that one isn't. Recently, the studio put out a new job listing — which you can check out here — for a "Lead Creature Animator."
Guerrilla is looking for a lead creature animator with extensive experience animating animal movement and behavior. As a Lead Creature Animator, you will be part of a diverse team of animators that collaborates closely with Game Design, Visual Design and Code to create engaging creatures for our compelling gameplay. Having a dedicated creature team means, you will have the chance to focus full time on setting the bar as high as possible in terms of aesthetic and in-game requirements for the creature animation quality.
As the Lead Creature Animator, you will set the bar and ensure that the animation output of our internal animation team continues to meet Guerrilla’s high standards. You will give your team the guidance and context needed in order to create real-time animalistic movement with a focus on quality and realism, while collaborating with game designers and programmers to fulfill tasks according to the production plan.
Now, if that doesn't already scream Horizon Zero Dawn to you then I'm not sure what will. Perhaps a job listing for a "Technical Vegetation Artist." Well, they were calling for one of them back in November 2019 — as you can see here. It all seems to add up but, of course, we're just speculating.
In a world where Machines dominate the earth and mankind lives on in primitive tribal societies, one woman sets out to find her destiny among the remnants of the ancient past. As Aloy, you must brave the Machine-infested wilderness and unearth secrets that lie buried deep within the earth. Will you embrace your calling… or pass into oblivion unsung?
Horizon Zero Dawn is out now for the PlayStation 4 and coming to PC this summer.
