Putting an end to a 5-year-long wait, Square Enix finally released the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake this past Friday; taking players to the fictional world of Midgard, and fighting the evil Shinra corporation as former 1st Class of SOLDIER Cloud Strife.
With all of the anticipation that had been building up since the game was initially announced, it was onlya matter of time until we started hearing information about sales numbers, and the latest bit of information has revealed that Final Fantasy VII Remake has taken this week's number 1 spot in the United Kingdom.
The information was revealed by GamesIndustry.biz, which revealed that Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Remake was the best-selling boxed game in the UK; managing to outsell Capcom's also highly anticipated remake of Resident Evil 3; not a small feat by any stretch.
It is also worth mentioning that Final Fantasy VII Remake is a timed PlayStation 4 exclusive title, whereas the Resident Evil 3 remake has actually been released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC — although it is also worth mentioning that sales of boxed games around the world have been stunted because of the Coronavirus lockdown — which, of course, also applies to the United Kingdom.
Final Fantasy VII Remake has only been out for 3 days, but this is definitely some great news for the recently released title. Hopefully we'll get some real sales numbers that include both boxed and digital copies of the game all over the world.
In Midgar, a city controlled by the mega-conglomerate Shinra Inc., the No. 1 Mako Reactor has been blown up by a rebel group, AVALANCHE. AVALANCHE was secretly formed to wage a rebellion against Shinra Inc., an organisation which is absorbing Mako energy, destroying the natural resources of the planet. Cloud, a former member of Shinra's elite combat force, SOLDIER, was involved with the bombing of the Mako Reactor. Can Cloud and AVALANCHE protect the planet from the huge, formidable enemy, Shinra Inc.?
Final Fantasy VII Remake is currently available for the PlayStation 4.
