Square Enix has released a four-part documentary series that features in-depth stories about the making of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth one of this year's biggest games.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is one of the top-rated games of the year with near universal acclaim. The second chapter in Square Enix's trilogy that remakes the beloved PlayStation classic from 1997, it's dubbed a must-play.

And for those who have already played the game, Square Enix has another treat for you — a four-part documentary series that "uncovers the stories behind the making" of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

In this series, which is fully available for free on YouTube, you can learn more about the making of this critically acclaimed game from some of the key figures of the development team, including Director Naoki Hamaguchi, Producer Yoshinori Kitase Creative Director Tetsuya Nomura, Story & Scenario Kazushige Nojima, and more.

Each of the episodes in the documentary runs for about 15-20 minutes and focuses on a different aspect of the game "with candid insights and never-before-heard stories from a lineup of the series’ directors, artists, designers and voice talent."

"This series offers fans and newcomers a backstage pass to hear secrets about the game’s vast and vibrant world, the powerful bonds between party members and the rich, multi-faceted stories and quests that await in this legendary adventure," Square Enix says about the series.

With over 50 perfect scores from critics, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth sits at a 9.2 on review aggregator Metacritic. Fans have been equally impressed by the remake, as evidenced by the 9.0 user score.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth picks up after the events of the first game, Final Fantasy VII Remake. The synopsis reads:

The game sees Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Aerith and Red XIII escape from the dystopian city of Midgar into the wide world beyond. To hunt down Sephiroth, a haunting figure from Cloud's past bent on ruling the planet, these unlikely heroes join forces with new companions like the spirited ninja operative Yuffie and the wisecracking, feline-shaped robot Cait Sith.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is playable exclusively on PlayStation 5 although there is speculation that it could also arrive on PC this summer.
