Final Fantasy VII: Remake was shown for the first time at E3 2015 and instantly became one of the biggest highlights of the expo. Four years ago, the remake was developed under the direction of Tetsuya Nomura, the original's character designer, battle visual director and screenwriter by CyberConnect2, the studio behind the
Naruto: Ultimate Ninja series. In 2017, Square Enix announced that the collaboration with CyberConnect 2 has ended and confirmed that they will be making the game in-house instead.
In a recent interview with Famitsu translated by Gematsu, Nomura revealed that he’s been focused on
Kingdom Hearts III, but the pre-launch development phase on that game is almost over and he can finally start working on
Final Fantasy VII: Remake. “
I’m thinking about ideas regarding the remake’s release – I even spoke to producer [Yoshinori] Kitase about it today,” he said. “
All of us old-timers are considering various developments in regards to what accompanies the remake. Like if we can manage to do something about the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII titles, too. But for the time being, please wait for VII‘s turn to come.”
Rumor has it that the development had to be pretty much restarted or at least a lot was scrapped after Square Enix took back the project from CC2 a year ago, as the studio's work to that point was apparently useless. The Japanese company has reportedly decided to stop refactoring the remake and started remaking it from the ground up. Regardless of the gossip’s legitimacy, see you in 2030,
Final Fantasy VII Remake!
