Platinum Games is a Japanese video game developing company, responsible for the
Bayonetta and
Vanquish series. The studio would like to change their developing process a bit, especially after the success of Ninja Theory. The British developers and their
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice proved that it's possible to not only develop, but also produce and publish an original game with a reasonable budget.
Platinum plans to create their own, small budget franchise without the support of "professional" publishers. A game that's not an indie, but also doesn't have an AAA, enormous budget. "
We can’t put together a AAA, $10 million-plus game, because we just don’t have that sort of cash as an independent developer. However, we don’t plan to go the indies route with just a few people on a team making a game, so it’ll be somewhere in the middle, looking at probably about 20 people on the staff making the game, so that’ll still be a healthy [size]," said Atsushi Inaba, head of development and a producer at Platinum in an interview with GameInformer.
The company doesn't give up on making big budgets games, so the announced
NieR: Automata sequel is probably being developer at PlatinumGames. The studio is currently busy with
Bayonetta 3 that's being made exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
