Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart may have been only one of the many games that were revealed during the special PlayStation 5 presentation that Sony hosted a couple of months ago, but it was probably the one most people talked about after the video game showcase was over.
The PlayStation 5 was officially confirmed in January of this year, and Sony made it very clear that it was going to be quite the capable console in terms of specs, so we all knew just how powerful the highly anticipated next-gen console would be, but it wasn't until we were shown Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart that we could finally grasp just how powerful.
Insomniac Games still hasn't revealed whether Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be a PlayStation 5 launch title — so far, we know that thier other game, MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be there at launch — but it is definitely the one that will be regarded as a console-seller; even more so than MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, I'd boldly dare to assume.
Just yesterday, during gamescom's official Opening Night Live presentation, Insomniac Games took the opportunity to release over 7 minutes of gameplay for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and players could get an eveb netter idea of what the game has in store for them, and what the system is actually capable of.
All of the gameplay footage was shown in 1080p running at 30 frames per second. This has been dony before by Sony, revealing that trailers and gameplay footage will be revealed in 1080p at 30FPS, but making it very clear that those may not be representative of the final product.
In a recent interview with Famitsu Magazine, Insomniac Games has officially confirmed that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will feature an option that allows players to plah the game at 60fps. As per the interview itself, translated by Google Translate, the game can run at 30fps at 4K resolution, as well as a lower resolution but running at 60fps; players will be able to select between those two options.
The interview doesn't reveal what the resolution for this "Performance Mode" is, so we will have to wait for more official information to be revealed by either Insomniac Games or PlayStation. This does remind us of what the developer said in regards to MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which will also feature a Performance Mode that allows the game to be run at 60fps in 4K resolution.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart already looks amazing as it is, so we should expect the game to run silky smooth like all of the previous games the talented developers at Insomniac Games have worked on; all players want right now is to play the game, regardless of specs.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is currently in development for the PlayStation 5.
