The fact that Oscar winning actress Alicia Vikander is playing Lara Croft is incredibly exciting, but so too is The Hateful Eight star Walton Goggins squaring off with her as the movie's villain. Talking to Yahoo Movies to promote upcoming TV series Six, Goggins said that he's "ready to get lost in a goddamn tomb" and went on to talk about his excitement to work with Vikander and director Roar Uthaug.
"This director is an extraordinarily talented filmmaker, and Alicia Vikander I’ve met a few times, we have some friends in common, but I just think she’s one of the greatest contributions to any generation of actors, man. That for me was just a wonderful opportunity. But more importantly, the story is so good. It’s so good! I think I can say this: For me, it’s like Raiders of the Lost Ark meets a genre version of the Joseph Conrad novel Victory: An Island Tale. I just jumped at the chance."
That sounds awesome, though it's obviously best not to get too excited due to how hit and miss video game adaptatuons tend to be. Still, that's quite the endorsement from the talented actor, and Goggins then went on to shed some light on his role in the movie. Like most actors who play bad guys, he doesn't see his character as a straight up villain, and that should help make this extra interesting.
"Is he a villain? Sure, that is an easy description," he teases. "An antagonist, for sure. But [like other characters] I have been so lucky to have the opportunity to play over the course of my career, there are real reasons behind his antagonism, and it’s not what you’d expect. He is very complicated, and his motivations are pure." Tomb Raider is set to be released March 2018. What do you guys think?
