When it comes to remakes of beloved classics, no one does it better than Aspyr. Not even one day after announcing plans to re-release Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles on modern consoles, Apsyr has also announced it is remastering three more games from a beloved franchise.
From a galaxy far, far away to the dark and dangerous tombs we go as Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics are working together to release Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered. This new three-game collection will feature remastered versions of Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles, and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. The games will re-release with improved visuals, modern control options, Photo Mode, trophies and achievements, and more.
Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is scheduled to be released on February 14, 2025, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. It's already available to pre-order for $29.99.
Here's a quick description for each of the three titles:
Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation (1999)
Lara Croft uncovers the lost tomb of the Egyptian God Set, unwittingly unleashing him and fulfilling an ancient prophecy—one that plunges mankind into darkness. Pursued at every turn by her arch-rival, the unscrupulous archaeologist Werner Von Croy, Lara embarks on a journey of discovery across Egypt, where she must overcome the most ingenious puzzles and infernal traps ever devised while facing terrifying evil from beyond the grave.
Tomb Raider: Chronicles (2000)
Following the events of The Last Revelation, Lara Croft is buried in an Egyptian tomb and presumed dead. At her memorial, those closest to her reminisce about secrets from her past. Travel back and experience Lara’s untold adventures, introducing new gameplay mechanics like stealth and tightrope balancing!
Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness (2003)
Accused of murder, Lara becomes a fugitive on the run, uncovering a sinister conspiracy involving alchemical experiments and the search for ancient artifacts. It’s up to Lara to stop this unholy alliance from unleashing its incredible powers on the world.
Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered comes on the heels of Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics releasing Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft for PC and consoles. This was a remaster of the original three Tomb Raider games.
Like the previous release, this remaster features a variety of improvements. Visually, players can toggle between classic and modern graphics on the fly. Similarly, players can also choose what control scheme they'd like: the original tank-style controls or the new modern controls inspired by later entries in the series for smoother movement and camera capability. There's also a new Photo Mode
Core Design developed The Last Revelation, Chronicles, and The Angel of Darkness, though these three were released to mostly mixed and some negative reviews. Though they sold well at the time, the general consensus was that Core Design was getting fatigued with the series. Development of the franchise after The Angel of Darkness was transferred to Crystal Dynamics, which released Tomb: Raider: Legend in 2006.
Aspyr is also working on Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles which is scheduled to release in January 2025.
