Crackdown 3 is one of the three big Xbox One exclusives that will be released in 2019 next to
Ori and the Will of the Wisps and
Gears 5. While Microsoft acknowledges that the
Crackdown series is not a system-seller just yet, the company has some plans for the franchise that will hopefully "go big" one day, as Cloudgine, Ruffian Games, and Sumo Digital are focusing one polishing up the threequel.
In a recent interview with Windows Central, Microsoft Studios' Creative Director Joseph Staten and Head of Production Jorg Neumann had a chance to talk about their
Crackdown 3 release strategy, and fans of the series should be happy to hear that it won't force you to pay additional money once you purchase the game, that will be also available on Microsoft's subscription service Xbox Game Pass.
"
We know that we didn't want to go with microtransactions. We're not going with the concept of loot crates. There will be things you can unlock, increasingly cool things. Whether they're rank based, or based on the number of matches, we're honestly still playing with it. We've made hundreds of things to unlock. We can take that to many places," the developers explained.
While
Crackdown 3 was originally billed as a four-player co-op, that has been limited to two-player in recent times, but players shouldn't be too worried, as Ruffian Games is working hard on the
Wrecking Zone mode, that will pitch two teams of five to battle for interagency in a fully-destructible environment, as
Crackdown 3 won't stop you from blowing up all of the game's colorful geometry.
Enter Crackdown 3’s sandbox of mayhem and destruction and become a Super-Powered Agent dedicated to Justice by any means necessary. Explore the heights of a dangerous futuristic city, cut through gang-infested streets in a transforming vehicle, and wield amazing abilities to dismantle a ruthless criminal empire. Developed by original creator Dave Jones, Crackdown 3 will deliver cooperative chaos and an all-new multiplayer mode where destruction is your ultimate weapon against friends and rivals online. Whether you’re playing the all-new Campaign or enjoying a truly revolutionary competitive experience, you’ll never look at open-world gaming the same way again.
Crackdown 3 will release on February 15, 2019 for Xbox One and Windows 10.
