Alongside the Shattered Space expansion back in late 2024, Starfield was meant to release to PlayStation 5, making it one of the many Xbox-owned IPs to take part in Xbox's frankly genius campaign to release their games to as many platforms as they could to cast as wide of a net as they could. This never happened, but credible leakers are still circling around assuring fans this will release on Sony's flagship system.
Leaker NateTheHate2 is suggesting the space-faring Bethesda RPG will be announced to be heading to the platform sometime this year. Meanwhile, it's also expected to see a gap between the reveal and release of game. It makes sense to give fans time to process the launch, though, it's hard to tell how much to take in, as at this time, Xbox has shown no signs of releasing Starfield to other platforms.
Starfield is coming to PS5 & intent should be announced this year. It's just a matter of when will the announcement happen.
One could argue that just the nature of Microsoft's "This is an Xbox" campaign is enough, as well as the myriad of other Xbox exclusives, such as Forza Horizon 5, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, Sea of Thieves, DOOM: The Dark Ages, and the lot being dropped onto PS5, with others like Gears of War: Reloaded and The Outer Worlds 2 also finding a home on Sony's console.
This rumor does come on the heels of Microsoft confirming a new Xbox showcase slated for June 8, starting at 1 PM EST, so perhaps this might be the time they finally reveal the port to PlayStation. This will showcase exclusive details and deep dives of their first-party and third-party partners. Games that could be part of the showcase, too, include big players like Fable, Gears of War: E-Day, which considering the reveal of Reloaded recently seems like great timing, and State of Decay 3. It will then be followed by a dedicated The Outer Worlds 2 Direct, which wil follow in the footsteps of previous dedicated showcases.
Since its debut in 2023, Starfield has seen a great of deal of criticism ranging from poor performance, which is par-for-the-course of most any Bethesda game anyway, to not having as much charm as other games from the same studio, with many unhappy with how boring the gameplay can be.
