Turok Demo Impressions

We spent some time running through the demo, and while not quite what we expected, it still shows promise.

As many of you know, the Turok demo was released a couple of days ago on Xbox Live. It includes about 30 minutes of game play, and lets you do everything from killing dinosaurs to getting your knife dirty with some good old fashioned human blood.

Note that Turok is rated M (Mature), and rightfully so, based on the blood and language we saw in the demo.

With that said, we expected a little more from the graphics (especially after being spoiled with games like Gears of War, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare), but they were acceptable.

The sound was average as well. There wasn't a ton of ambient noise, although there probably should have been due to the fact that you're in a jungle.

One thing that we did like was the fact that you have multiple weapons, and combinations of weapons, all accessible via the directional pad (similar to Gears of War).

We quickly got tired of the dinosaurs pushing us around, and actually knocking us down. The guns didn't seem to do a lot of damage. So quickly discovered what may be the greatest feature of Turok: the knife kill.

The fact that you can use the knife, and kill not only humans with one shot, but dinosaurs as well, made this our weapon of choice. It's a nice touch that every knife kill isn't the same. There were several different sequences that we saw from folding them backwards and plunging your knife into their chest, to knocking them down and slamming it into their skull.

Although the demo was missing a little polish, and didn't include any multiplayer capabilities for us to play with, we're still holding out hope that this could be one of the next great first-person shooters for the Xbox 360.
