The long-rumored Halo: Combat Evolved Remake may be real and it could be one of the most surprising Halo releases yet. According to well-known industry insider RebsGaming, new details in his latest video suggest that the remake will not include multiplayer, instead focusing entirely on a campaign-only experience, with potential plans to launch the game on PlayStation for the first time in franchise history. Similar to how Gears Of War is coming to Playstation for the first time and bringing players from all consoles together.

The video that was mentioned dives into a wide range of Halo-related projects. In it He cites two separate sources close to Halo’s development, revealing that work on the Halo CE remake began in 2023 and is intended to be part of a 2026 Anniversary Project. While 343 Industries has not officially confirmed the project, much of the in-development footage shown in Unreal Engine 5 for Halo’s internal Foundry project is "clearly based on Combat Evolved," according to Rebs.

Perhaps the most surprising detail is that the remake will not include any multiplayer component, a significant departure for a game that helped define online FPS gameplay. Instead, it appears to be a faithful single-player experience, reimagined in Unreal Engine 5 as the engine that modernizes the original Halo campaign without rebuilding its classic multiplayer infrastructure.

Adding fuel to the fire is the claim that the Halo CE remake may also launch on PlayStation, breaking decades of Xbox exclusivity. While no platforms have been confirmed, this would mark a major shift for the franchise as Xbox broadens its publishing strategy beyond console boundaries.

Halo multiplayer fans shouldn't hit the panic button quite yet. RebsGaming reports that the cancelled Project Tatanka which was originally a battle royale mode for Halo Infinite has been handed off to Certain Affinity and rebranded as Project Ekur, a standalone multiplayer title built in Unreal Engine 5. The game has reportedly been receiving daily backend updates, indicating active development. Hopefully we will see some announcements about it soon.

This report also aligns with recent speculation from Halo dataminer grunt.api, who linked new backend code to Ekur. Rebs' sources confirmed the connection, calling Ekur Halo’s "next multiplayer pillar."

The video also touches on Halo 7, the next mainline entry in the franchise. Rebs believes the game is in early pre-production and will serve as an indirect sequel to Halo Infinite. However, fans should not expect a release anytime soon Rebs states it likely won’t launch until the next generation of Xbox consoles.

There were also two major rumors that were debunked:

  • Halo Infinite is not being ported to Unreal Engine 5. Both a former and current developer confirmed they have never heard of such plans.
  • Halo Infinite is not coming to PlayStation, contrary to recent speculation.

Halo Studios has teased that more official announcements related to the franchise are on the way later this year, potentially confirming or clarifying many of these details.

Whether you're a longtime fan of Halo or a curious PlayStation player eyeing the franchise for the first time, the next few announcements for Halo could bring a major shake-up to one of gaming’s most iconic series. We will keep you posted on any updates that happen here at Gamefragger.com!
