Mass Effect Legendary Edition, the remaster of BioWare's beloved sci-fi trilogy, has gone gold. Project director Mac Walters announced the achievement on social media, celebrating with a little dance gif. The significance of this announcement means that Mass Effect Legendary Edition is now officially locked in for its launch next month on May 14.
Revealed in November of last year, Mass Effect Legendary Edition remasters the highly acclaimed Mass Effect trilogy, featuring the single-player base content and DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3. The series has undergone some pretty drastic improvements, and not just visually. While each game has been optimized for 4K UHD, even the gameplay has been modernized.
Combat has been refined with accuracy tuned across all weapons. In Mass Effect, the aiming down sights camera view has been tightened during combat so that it's more accurate like the second and third games. Aim assist has also been improved to provide better precision. Additionally, BioWare has made a series of gameplay changes specific to the first Mass Effect game that bring it more in line with the rest of the trilogy including giving Shepard the ability to sprint out of combat, mapping melee attacks to a button press, removing class weapon specialty and much more. Squadmates can also now be commanded independently of each other in the first game.
Other tweaks and improvements fans will notice is a "calibrated" M-35 Mako that has performs better. In addition to more accurate driving, the Mako has been improved with faster shield recharging and new thrusters. Character customization has also been enhanced with more appearance options available.
Although Mass Effect Legendary Edition was announced around the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, it was developed for PS4, Xbox One and PC. However, you will still be able to play it on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with "targeted enhancements."
