Cheapassgamer, physical copies of Cuphead will begin being sold in traditional brick-and-mortar retailers this Tuesday, November 7. Previously, the PC and Xbox One game was only available as a digital download. However, the game being sold in stores won't have a disc but will contain a download code. While some gamers are asking what's the point, it should be noted that gamers who frequent specific stores and have Reward points or something similar will now be able to take advatange of such programs. The physical box wil also contain an art cell.
There's no word on what the "physical copy" will cost (the digital retail price is $19.99), but the developers have taken to Twitter to address the mini-controversy, promising that an actual physical disc copy of the game will be sold at a later date.
Elsewhere, the developers for the game, designers Chad and Jared Moldenhauer of StudioMDHR
spoke to Kotaku about a number of usual post-launch topics such as cut bosses and how the game evolved over time. However, perhaps the most interesting question was one that's been speculated about fairly heavily within the game's community- what's in the cups? "
Internally, we’ve always said it’s their essence or their soul," said Chad. Jared echoed, "
It wasn’t really anything too definitive. I think that comes from the design aesthetic, but I think it would be weird if it was glowing red or something like that. We we just like, “Yeah, that’s their soul!”
Cuphead was released digitally on PC and the Xbox One on September 29. It sold over 1 million copies in just 2 weeks and currently has a Metacritic score of 89% on PC and 87% on Xbox One.
The all-cartoon Magical Wondergame! Cuphead is available now for Xbox One, Windows 10 , Steam and GOG!
