PlatinumGames is a Japanese video game studio that's been around since 2007. Honestly, that's not a very long time and when reports surfaced that Scalebound's cancellation had the studio's fate tipped on a precarious edge, many gamers believed them.
Speaking at the Reboot Develop 2018 in Croatia, Platinum Games Executive director and producer Atsushi Inaba refuted those claims in an interview with Eurogamer.
"The reality is this- Any time you make a game for that long, you love it and you put your heart and soul into it. Ultimately not all games pan out, so when it didn't, we also felt very much like you: very disappointed we couldn't get it out into the hands of the users."
"A lot of the details were under NDA and we can't discuss them. I'd love to be able to give you more information about it but at the end of the day you can only say what you can say, and unfortunately, those are areas we can't go into detail about."
"I've heard thatrumour too and it's totally unsubstantiated. We're not a one project studio, we're a balanced studio. If any of the fans heard that rumour and then were worried about us or upset we feel very sorry. We're totally fine," he added, "and we were totally fine then too."
Microsoft
canceled Scalebound in January 2017. Platinum Games CEO Kenichi Sato
issued a public apology letter a day later. Though rumors that Scalebound might be moved to another studio or even moved in-house persist even to this day, Microsoft indicated just last August that they've essentially
wiped their hands clean of the entire affair and want to move on to other projects.
