Microsoft has been making it abundantly clear over the past couple of weeks that Xbox will no longer be a walled garden. Even the brand's biggest flagship franchises will come to rival platforms, the latest being Forza.
Developer Playground Games announced this week that Forza Horizon 5 will race onto PlayStation 5 this Spring. Originally released in 2023 for Xbox Series consoles and PC, Forza Horizon 5 was both a critical and commercial hit for Xbox. With over 10 million players in the first week, it was the biggest-ever launch for an Xbox Game Studios game. And soon, PlayStation gamers will experience what all of the excitement was about.
Forza Horizon 5 is an open-world racing game set in a fictional representation of Mexic. It's not only the largest map ever in the Forza Horizon series, but it's also the most diverse with areas containing an active caldera volcano, jungles, and beaches, cities and towns, and more.
The game received robust post-launch support, including 4- thematic game updates and two expansions. It now features over 900 cars. All of this content will make its way into the PS5 version of the game, which was developed by Panic Button in partnership with Turn 10 Studios and Playground Games.
The PS5 version will feature all of the same content as the Xbox and PC releases of the game, with previously released Car Packs available for purchase separately. Paid expansions, like the Hot Wheels pack from 2022, will also be available in the PlayStation Store.
"We are excited to see the Forza Horizon 5 community grow with new players on PS5, and we can't wait to see the creativity and skill these new creators, builders, and racers will bring to our vibrant community," Playground Games said.
This wasn't the only announcement Playground Games made. In addition to the PS5 version, the developer is working on a new free content update, Horizon Realms, that will be available on all platforms. Horizon Realms "will give players the chance to explore a curated collection of some of the community’s favorite previously released Evolving Worlds, alongside some other surprises."
Forza Horizon 5 is the latest Xbox game to make the jump to PlayStation. Last year, Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush, also former Xbox exclusives, were released on PlayStation 5. Meanwhile, DOOM: The Dark Ages, which is published by the Microsoft-owned Bethesda Softworks, is also launching on PS5 in May. MachineGames' Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, another Bethesda Softworks-published game for Xbox, is also coming to PS5 this Spring.
And that's not all, either. There are rumors that Hellblade 2, Age of Mythology, Gears of War 1 Ultimate Edition, and Starfield could make the jump to PS5.
