Nintendo players have been eagerly waiting for Square Enix to announce Kingdom Hearts collection like the Kingdom Heats HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX. In the past, Square Enix has even released exclusive Kingdom Hearts titles that have just recently made their way into other platforms.

Kingdom Hearts III is a game that is graphically more demanding, but Square Enix has successfully managed to port graphically demanding titles like Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age to the Nintendo Switch, and Kingdom Hearts wouldn't be that much different.

In June of this year, Square Enix surprised Nintendo Switch owners by revealing that Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory was releasing on the popular handheld hybrid console. This led fans to believe that Kingdom Hearts III, alongside the rest of the games in the series, could also be released prior to the new rhythm title's launch.

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memories may be a rhythm game, but fans of the long-running series know that every single one of the games — even the ones that look like spin-off titles — are important to understand the whole story, and the series is non-existent on the Nintendo Switch library.

In a recent interview with Nintendo Enthusiast, Kingdom Hearts series director and character designer Tetsuya Nomura has revealed that there are no plans to port any of the previously released titles in the series on the Nintendo Switch.

According to Nomura, Square Enix has considered porting the games to the Nintendo Switch in the past, but they have not been able to due to technical difficulties; in short, Square Enix believes the Nintendo Switch couldn't handle the games on a technical level.

Nomura isn't really slamming the Nintendo Switch, though, as he also understands the console's appeal, and that he has always wanted to develop for the popular handheld hybrid platform; hinting that maybe another game of his could eventually release for the Nitnendo Switch.

While this is very disappointing news, nothing is ever set in stone when it comes to games being ported to the Nintendo Switch, it's just unusual to see Square Enix not porting, at the very least, the Kingdom Hearts collections; with the exception of Kingdom Hearts III, all of the previous titles in the series ran on inferior hardware than the Nintendo Switch.
