It's been about a month since Guy ‘Dr Disrespect’ Beahm stepped away from streaming, taking a lengthy break amidst a whirlwind of controversy. While he referred to it as an extended vacation, his break from streaming followed the surfacing of allegations that he had messaged a minor in 2017, which turned out the be the real reason he was permanently banned from Twitch in 2020.
Beahm acknowledged on social media that he was messaging an individual minor, admitting that there were "casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate." While he clarified that "nothing illegal happened, no pictures were shared, no crimes were committed," just the simple act of sending inappropriate messages to a minor was enough for many to write off Dr Disrespect completely.
Well, after about a month of silence, Dr Disrespect has returned to social media. On Twitter, the "Two Time" posted a single image showing him playing chess against someone playing chess.
Beahm didn't offer any sort of comment, but the image itself seems to indicate that Beahm plans to make good on his promise that he's "not f***ing going anywhere."
Beahm had been defensive right up until the moment he cut his stream early back in June and it appears he's as combative as ever. He's always had a brash streaming personality, but he appears to be taking any sort of confrontational criticism head-on.
Dr Disrespect directly responded to some of his detractors, calling one a "little brainwashed woke boy" while poking fun at another's use of pronouns.
While Dr Disrespect appears ready to move on from his prior incident and return to streaming, it seems the community at large has not yet forgiven him. Even if Beahm does return to the world of streaming, he may find it difficult to continue to make a lavish living from it. He's already been banned from Twitch and shortly after the incident unfolded last month, YouTube disabled monetization on his channel.
Additionally, even some of Beahm's closest streaming friends have sought to distance themselves from him. And many of his partnerships and sponsorships were cut. His line of Turtle Beach peripherals as removed from sale, the San Francisco 49ers dropped him, and even 2K removed him from NBA 2K24. Back in june, Midnight Society, the game studio that Beahm co-founded, completely parted ways with him and scrubbed his name from its official website.
