Earlier this week, it was reported that the popular, yet controversial video game stream Nickmercs (real name Nick Kolcheff) was suspended from Twitch. Users discovered that the streamer's Twitch channel is "temporarily unavailable due to a violation of Twitch's Community Guidelines or Terms of Service."
On social media, Nickmercs — one of the world's most popular Call of Duty streamers — revealed he was banned for using the word "tranny" during one of his livestreams. "Tranny" is considered an offensive and derogatory slur for a transgender individual, which obviously goes against Twitch's Community Guidelines.
The streaming platform makes clear note under the Civility and Respect section of its Community Guidelines that it does not permit "Hateful Conduct." The section specifically reads:
"Twitch does not permit behavior that is motivated by hatred, prejudice or intolerance, including behavior that promotes or encourages discrimination, denigration, harassment, or violence based on the following protected characteristics: race, ethnicity, color, caste, national origin, immigration status, religion, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, serious medical condition, and veteran status.
In his response to the ban, Nickmercs wrote on social media that he'll use "mental health disorder" next time.
It's unclear how long Twitch's temporary ban will last but the channel is still suspended as of this writing. Nickmercs has not offered any additional updates and Twitch has not commented on the ban. Nickmercs also streams on rival platform Kick and posts on YouTube where his channel has over four million subscribers.
This is hardly the first time that the controversial streamer has found himself in hot water. Despite being one of the most popular Call of Duty streamers in the world, Activision, in 2023, pulled the Nickmercs Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone skin after he posted an anti-LGBTQ+ tweet.
His tweet, in response to a video of anti-LGBT protestors and pro-LGBT demonstrators engaging in a clash outside a school voting to recognize June as Pride Month. "They should leave little children alone. That's the real issue," Nickmercs tweeted in response, prompting immediate backlash.
Elsewhere in the streaming world, Nickmercs recently distanced himself from fellow troubled streamer Dr Disrespect (real name Guy Beahm) who recently admitted to engaging in sexually explicit conversation with a minor back in 2020. Nickmercs, who is one of Dr Disrespect's closest streaming friends, posted a video calling Beahm's actions "inexcusable" and stating "I can't support it. I can't defend it."
