The Castlevania franchise has been around for almost as long as the major console video game brand has existed. The constant war between the Belmont clan and Count Dracula has raged for years and multiple sequels, helping to create the 2D dungeon crawler genre.
As smartphone games became more advanced and had the power of consoles in the palm of users' hands, more franchises were able to grow in their style, and older emulators finally had a place to bring classic titles to life.
Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls released for smartphones in 2019 and continued the age-old tradition of making sure that that the evil Count Dracula remained in his grave. The game allowed players to take control of a new character named Genya Arikado, and throughout the story would meet classic characters like Alucard and Simon Belmont.
While the game was a massive success, it was announced that the game would be concluding its service this September. Sadly, there was no reason given to the game's ending. Make sure to share your thoughts on the news in the comments!
The game's story is set in a future where Dracula seems to have been completely destroyed, and peace is almost upon the land. But Genya Arikado receives a letter that tells of an end to this new peace. It reads, "The Grimoire is loose. Dracula will be resurrected." In order to find out the meaning to these words, Genya sets out to meet the letter's sender. The story focuses on Genya Arikado and his assistant Lucy, but familiar Castlevania characters such as Alucard, Simon, Charlotte, Shanoa, Maria, and Soma Cruz also make appearances.
Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls service will be ending on September 9th!
