As part of
Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Week, just about every Marvel game is receiving content inspired by the First Family. For Kabam's mobile fighting game,
MARVEL Contest of Champions, it means the arrival of The Thing (Ben Grimm).
With yesterday's update, The Thing is now playable in the game and he brought with him something called Rock Stacks. This new mechanic helps you with your specials, inflicting different effects and increasing your damage with specials. The Thing can gain Rock Stacks in three ways: getting hit (1 Rock Stack), blocking a hit (1 Rock Stack), a perfectly timed block (4 Rock Stacks). Rock Stacks are lost when Thing receives a Bleed.
Rock Stacks last indefinitely, up to 15 Stacks, and are capped at 20. When a Rock Stack is removed or the duration expires, The Thing gains a permanent Passive Fury.
Thing is a sturdy defender with multiple immunities, who increases his resistances and can become Unstoppable when he gets hit. His abilities also steadily build up Fury, significantly raising his attack as the fight goes on.
The Thing boasts three specials that are all affected by how many Rock Stacks he has. Fists of Stone increases his damage according to how many Rock Stacks; 15 makes it unblockable. Rush Down staggers the opponent and is also unblockable with 15 or more Stacks. His final special is Clobberin' Time, which makes Thing unblockable and unblockable for eight seconds.
As for what his abilities actually do, here they are:
Passive -Immune to Bleed, Shock, Armor Break, Nullify, Stagger, and Fate Seal effects.
Passive - Rock Stack - Rock Stacks last indefinitely, up to 15 Stacks. Any additional Rock Stacks last for 5 seconds. Rock Stacks are capped at 20.
Special 1: Fists of Stone - Thing rips up the ground, then pummels the Opponent with a pair of boulder boxing gloves.
Special 2: Rush Down - Thing charges forward, then jumps high in the air to cannonball his Opponent.
Special 3: It's Clobberin' Time! - Thing crushes the Opponent with a boulder, then rolls them into a rock-burrito and flings them into the wall.
Thing is now available in
MARVEL Contest of Champions. The mobile fighting game is free-to-play and available on iOS and Android devices.
