When it was revealed that a slate of live-action Pokemon movies is finally in the works, it's fair to say none of us expected to get one revolving around Detective Pikachu. Well, it's happening and while it's set to start shooting next January, there's been no mention of a cast. Well, that's changed with the news that Legendary Pictures is eyeing a number of big stars for the voice of the titular character.
Apparently, among those being considered are Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson. This Pikachu is a hardboiled detective as opposed to the loveable version who accompanied Ash Ketchum on his adventures so actors like these seem like a good fit even if it is hard to imagine the fan-favourite Pokemon talking with such a gruff voice. It's going to be weird!
Detective Pikachu will be directed by Rob Letterman (Goosebumps), with Captain Marvel screenwriter Nicole Perlman and Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch writing the screenplay. Stay tuned for updates!
