Trainers who logged into Pokémon Go over the weekend noticed that the Lunar New Year 2020 Event has officially begun. This year is the Year of the Rat which has inspired the choice of featured creatures.

While many fans speculated that this event would be imminent when the official Pokémon Go twitter account started tweeting cryptic images of moons, the event itself officially began taking place on Friday the 24th, and it will run until February 3rd at 1 pm PST.

The features of the event are live, and they include the increase in spawn rates for certain red Pokémon. These include Charmeleon, Parasect, Vulpix, Voltorb, Magmar, Jynx, Slugma, Magikarp, Wurmple, Foongus, Corphish, and Kriketot, so this is great time to stock up on candies and evolve their forms if needed.

Additionally, shiny Gyarados is also appearing in the wild - and as most fans are aware, this is also a red Pokémon. This is a tough one to find normally, especially with the 400 candy requirement to evolve Magikarp, so this is a huge win for players.

In the department of new Pokémon, fans can now get both Darumaka and Minccino. The former, also known as the Zen Charm Pokémon, is currently available to hatch from 7 km eggs alongside several other red creatures like Shuckle and Foongus.

Minccino, meanwhile, also known as the Chinchilla Pokémon, comes with a whole new set of limited research. Although it needs a Unova stone to evolve, the shiny form of this creature is already available so you may want to want to evolce yours. Take a look below at both these new creatures gracing the mobile game with their presence!
