The rumors were true; Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is coming to Xbox Game Pass. Last year's blockbuster shooter will be available on Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Ultimate starting on Wednesday, July 24th.
Subscribers will have access to the complete game and all of its modes, such as the single player campaign, core multiplayer, and open world Zombies experience.
Modern Warfare 3 is the third entry in the rebooted Modern Warfare sub-series, and follows the events of 2022's Modern Warfare 2. Unfortunately, neither 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare or 2022's Modern Warfare 2 are available to play through Game Pass, so you may be a bit lost with the campaign. The story synopsis for Modern Warfare 3 reads:
Immediately following the events of Modern Warfare II, Captain Price, Ghost and the rest of Task Force 141 continue the hunt for ultranationalist Vladimir Makarov, taking them across the world in this gripping single player campaign. I won’t spoil it for you here, but the events that take place will have lasting consequences in the Modern Warfare universe.
If the campaign is not for you, you can always dive into the robust multiplayer suite, which requires no familiarity with the previous entries. In fact, the multiplayer includes all the classic maps from the original 2009 Modern Warfare 2 but with gameplay improvements and more.
The arrival of Modern Warfare 3 comes at a good time for the subscription service which has faced blowback for price increases and restrictions on certain tiers. Last week, Microsoft officially retired Xbox Game Pass for Console in favor of the new Xbox Game Pass Standard. This new tier costs $14.99 per month and includes access to the large Game Pass library; however, it does not include other perks such as playable Day One releases, access to EA Play, Game Pass for PC, and cloud gaming.
Microsoft's other tiers, including Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass also received slight price hikes.
The price increase came after Microsoft officially announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be a Day One release on Xbox Game Pass. It was previously announced for Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass PC, and Game Pass Console. Unfortunately, Game Pass Console is no longer a thing, which means you'll need to subscribe to the more expansive plan to play the latest release.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set to launch on October 25, 2024. It will be available on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
