A Sequel To DETECTIVE PIKACHU Is Officially In Development; 22 JUMP STREET Writer Set To Pen The Script
We still have three months left until Detective Pikachu hits theaters, but a new report indicates a sequel is already in the works with writer Oren Uziel (The Cloverfield Paradox) on board to pen the script.
This summer, the live-action Detective Pikachu movie will finally explode into theaters. However, even though we are still months away from the film's release, it looks like Legendary Pictures is already looking towards the franchise's future.
According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is actively developing a sequel to the unreleased Pokémon movie with Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street) attached to write the screenplay.
No other details on the sequel were revealed in the report, and it is currently unclear whether Ryan Reynold (Deadpool) will reprise his role as the titular Pokémon, or if Justice Smith will return to play Tim Goodman.
Detective Pikachu is directed by Rob Letterman (Monsters vs. Aliens) and is scheduled to be released on May 10, 2019.
