Sonic the Hedgehog finally arrived in theatres on February 14th. Based on the popular video game series of the same name, the live-action movie stars Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, and Ben Schwartz as the voice of the titular character. Jeff Fowler serves as director —
and he recently took to Twitter to celebrate the movie's successful opening.
Last week, we reported that the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie had debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a 70% score on the Tomatometer. This percentage is based on how many reviews by critics are in favour of the video game movie. However, the score has dropped to 64% since then. Still, at least the majority of the reviews are positive.
Regardless of how critics feel about the movie, general moviegoers seem to be having a blast with it. The Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes is similarly calculated based on the positivity of reviews. However, the reviews are written by general audiences rather than professional critics —
similar to CinemaScore wherein Sonic the Hedgehog received top marks.
Sonic the Hedgehog's Audience Score is almost a perfect at an impressive 94% — with almost 10,000 reviews having been taken into account. That's an unprecedented amount of positivity from audiences. However, it's certainly not the first time that critics and audiences haven't seen eye to eye.
